Pan Con Tomate - Spanish Grilled Bread With Tomatoes

Pan con tomate, also called pan tumaca in Spanish, or pa amb tomàquet in Catalan, is a traditonal Spanish tapas, and my go to when in Spain. You will basically find it anywhere, even though it has some variations based on the region. It’s a traditional food of Catalan, Valencian, Balearic, Aragonese and Murcian cuisines.

I’ve been loving it recreating it at home because it’s so simple! Its simplicity makes it the perfect dish. It is great as an appetiser, a snack, or a side for any meal, from breakfast to dinner.

Traditionally, the tomato is rubbed onto the bread directly. Although I find it easier to grate the tomato so it is easier to extract the pulp and you can enjoy more tomato on the bread. This way, the toasted bread also remains nice and crunchy.
